FAQs
Common questions about ordering, availability, and custom bakes.
Do you take special requests?
Yes! If you’d like something you don’t see on my website, please ask. I’m happy to explore new recipes or try to recreate something based on an old family recipe you love.
That said, I do need to follow Minnesota’s Cottage Food Law restrictions, so there may be some items I’m not legally allowed to sell.
How do I place an order?
The easiest way is to fill out the category request form on the product page (for example, Cakes, Cupcakes, Breads, Cookies) or submit the contact form and describe what you’re looking for. Once you submit, I’ll follow up with any questions.
If you share your phone number, I can call or text; otherwise, watch for an email. Tell me your preferred way to respond.
Note: It may take up to 12 hours to confirm an order.
How far in advance should I place an order?
I typically need 7–10 days’ notice for custom orders. If you need something sooner, reach out and I’ll confirm availability.
How do I pay for my order?
With the exception of sourdough starter, all orders require a 50% down payment. This down payment is subtracted from your total when you pick up your order.
For example, a $40 order would require a $20 down payment up front. When you pick up your order, your remaining balance would be $20.
Sourdough starter does not require any upfront payment; that can be paid at pickup.
I currently accept cash and Venmo. I’m not set up to accept debit or credit cards at this time.
How do you calculate your prices?
I start by tracking my ingredient costs and any disposable packaging to determine the material cost. I purchase most of my ingredients from local grocery stores in the Andover / St. Francis area.
Next, I calculate how long it takes me to make each bake and use that to determine a fair base price for my time. Some recipes cost more in ingredients, and some require more hands-on time.
If you’re working with a specific budget, please let me know. I can often adjust recipes, portion sizes, or design details to better align with your budget while still giving you something delicious and special.
Do you offer delivery?
At this time I offer pickup only from my home. I’ll share my address during the order process. Ask if you have special circumstances.
Note: orders like teired cakes, will be delivered so that I can do final assembly at your event location.
When can I pickup my order?
Because my schedule is busy, I’ll confirm a specific pickup date and time with you. Most orders can typically be picked up:
- Monday – Friday: Evenings, roughly between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm
- Saturday & Sunday: Afternoons, roughly between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm
If you need a different time, please mention that in your message and I’ll do my best to accommodate.
What about allergens and dietary needs?
Many of my online recipes list ingredients and common allergens. I am required to also provide a full ingredient list and common allergens for all items sold. My kitchen is smoke- and pet-free, but items may contain or come in contact with wheat, milk, eggs, and nuts. If you have an allergy, please tell me so I can advise whether I’m able to take the order.
How should I store my order?
Most items are best the day they’re made. Custom decorated cakes will keep for 6-8 hours at room temperature; breads and cookies keep well in an airtight container at room temperature for 1–2 days. I’ll include specific storage notes with your order when needed.
What’s your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel, please let me know as soon as possible. Orders canceled within 36 hours of pickup will forfeit the 50% deposit to cover ingredients and prep already underway.
Classic vs. Custom — Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Classic Cakes and how they differ from Custom Cake orders.
What is the difference between Classic and Custom cakes?
Our Classic Cakes & Cupcakes are inspired by the way my grandmother baked for her small-town community — simple, joyful, and made to celebrate. These are intentionally limited designs made with trusted box mixes for faster turnaround and affordability.
Our Custom Cakes & Cupcakes are made entirely from scratch and allow for more detailed designs, specialty flavors, and decorative techniques.
Both are made with care — they’re just designed for different needs.
Are Classic cakes lower quality?
No — they are simply different by design.
Classic cakes focus on:
- Simplicity
- Nostalgia
- Faster production
- Limited decoration
Custom cakes focus on:
- From-scratch baking
- Specialty ingredients
- Decorative techniques
- Personalized design details
Neither option is “better” — the right choice depends on what you’re looking for.
Can I customize a Classic cake?
Classic cakes have fixed design limits so we can keep them affordable and stress-free.
Classic cakes do not include:
- Ombre or blended colors
- Logos, images, or characters
- Specialty fillings or flavors
- Tiered or sculpted designs
If you’re looking for those options, your order will be quoted as a Custom Cake instead.
Why is there such a price difference between Classic and Custom?
Custom cakes require significantly more time, planning, and hands-on decorating. From-scratch baking and detailed designs naturally take longer and use more specialty ingredients.
Classic cakes are priced lower because:
- They use box mixes
- Designs are intentionally simple
- Production time is shorter and more predictable
This allows us to offer a nostalgic option without compromising the quality of our custom work.
Can I upgrade a Classic cake to make it more custom?
To keep pricing clear and expectations fair, Classic cakes cannot be upgraded beyond their listed options.
If you have a specific vision or want additional details, we’re happy to help — we’ll just quote it as a Custom Cake so it’s priced appropriately.
Which option should I choose?
Choose Classic if you want:
- A simple, affordable celebration cake
- A nostalgic, no-frills design
- Faster turnaround
Choose Custom if you want:
- From-scratch baking
- Specialty flavors or fillings
- Detailed or themed designs
- A more personalized look
If you’re unsure, feel free to ask — we’re happy to point you in the right direction.
Are Classic cakes always available?
Classic cakes are offered based on availability and may be limited during busy seasons.
Why do you offer both?
Because celebrations don’t all look the same. Some moments call for a simple cake shared with family. Others call for something more detailed and personalized. Offering both allows us to serve our community thoughtfully — just like my grandmother did.
